TEN MEN WYMONDHAM DOES LEAGUE DOUBLE OVER DEREHAM

Wymondham Utd v Dereham Town U13’s

Sunday December 13th saw Wymondham Utd U13’s travel to Dereham for a tough game against a very skilful Dereham Town. The last time the two teams met the crowd were treated to a match that was a fantastic advertisement for youth football, well contested, skilful and a bag full of goals.

This match was set to be a little different when Wymondham could only field 10 players. The management reshuffled and provided the boys with a very spirited and motivating pre match talk, however nobody could have predicted what was about to happen.

Dereham kicked off and immediately pressed to make the extra person count, however time and time again the defence of Fraser Field, Joe Gorham, Owen Lancaster and new boy Adam Harmer held firm. The Midfield of Ashley Ward, Oliver Street, Michael Farmer and Bradlie Harcourt battled well and worked tirelessly for each other. After 20 minutes the game was at stalemate 0-0when the midfield managed to thread the ball thorough to Charlie Love who controlled the ball and thumped the ball past eh stranded Dereham keeper to make it 1-0. The shell shocked Dereham team struggled to reply with Wymondham solid defence and the superb Sam Palmer in gaol, who kicked well to the midfield and play changed from left to right of the pitch and the ball came across to Bradlie Harcourt who hit a 20 yard volley over the head of the keeper to make it 2-0. Wymondham kept pressing and the 10 men soon made it 3-0 with Bradlie getting his 2nd of the game going into half time.

The 2nd half saw a more determined Dereham side come out and Sam Palmer was soon called upon to make a string of fine saves. Wymondham’s 10 were soon down to 9 when the skilful Joe Gorham was taken out of the game. Michel dropped into defence. The 9 players matched everything that Dereham would throw at them including several substitutions, in fact it was Wymondham 9 that made the score 4-0 when Charlie latched onto a poor clearance from the keeper. Joe Gorham came back on after 5 minutes and this enable Michael to push up forward. Charlie love soon hit his hatrick and Wymondham's 5th. Dereham's 11 players never gave up and scored a consolation goal at the end to make the final score 5-1

With the recent change in management and several key players not available the 10 Wymondham players can hold their head up high. Again a great advert for youth football. Well Done
