Mundford 4 Wymondham Town 4 - Wymondham win 5-4 after penalties. 28/02/2010
This is what Semi-Finals should be like! End to end tight to the very last minute. Wymondham attacked straight from the kick off and after 30 seconds should have been ahead,but Sonny Clarke unfortunately failed to connect in front of an open goal for what would have been a dream start! We soon paid the price and Mundford went ahead after a well worked goal. The response from the boys was immediate and Sonny whipped in a corner and Henry Metcalf volleyed in from close range, 1-1. We didn't take advantage and Mundford went clear again and through their impressive no 9 again went ahead. Luke Hunt was trying to inspire his team mates from the middle of the park, and not long before half time after great determination from Sonny the ball was threaded through to Jacob Bush who made no mistake for 2-2. Fergus Hughes made some great saves with immaculate handling as the half wore on. HT 2-2. The 2nd half started and Town were getting on top, Charlie Gavin was controlling things at the back, and the boys were starting to dominate, then from nowhere a shot from the edge of the box crept in the bottom corner and we were behind again. Town drove forward again, and after more pressure, a fierce Sonny shot that was going wide, was well controlled by Henry and he managed to turn and slip the ball past the keeper for 3-3. Moving into the last 15 minutes Jamie Blanchflower was introduced to help keep things tight at the back as Town were hunting for the winner, but a break by Mundford ended with them scoring from an acute angle to put them ahead again, surely to come back for a 4th time was just going to be too much to ask. Town piled forward and pushed Jacob alongside Henry in an attempt to claw themselves back again, and with a minute to go a great through ball from Jacob found Henry and with great composure he slid it past the advancing keeper to take this superb contest into penalties.FT 4-4. The 1st penalty from Jamie was tipped onto the bar then Luke,Sonny,Jacob, & Henry scored, and as Fergus had saved a Mundford kick it was down to the Keepers, and Fergus with great confidence placed his kick into the bottom corner, and then made a great save from the Mundford keeper to send the boys into the Final. 5-4 to Town on penalties.
