Wymondham Town Utd 2 Lakenheath 4 07/03/2010
After last weeks Semi Final success it was certainly down to earth with a bump this weekend, as Town lost for the first time this season. On a lovely sunny day, Town started brightly and on the front foot. What we had not bargained for was an inspired goalkeeping display from the Lakenheath keeper. In the 1st 15 minutes he made two wonderful saves from Henry Metcalf. Fergus Hughes also made 2 great saves from 1 on 1's. Charlie Gavin was trying to drive forward from the back. Town eventually broke the deadlock when the superb Luke Hunt scored after a lovely solo run which ended with him placing a neat shot passed the rooted keeper. This was surely what was required to open the floodgates. What we expected and what we got were very different. A free kick struck from just inside the Town half flew passed Fergus Hughes and levelled the score at 1-1. Town fortunately then went 2-1 ahead when Henry drove a ball into the box looking for Curtis Bell, who although he missed the ball did enough to put off the visiting keeper and the ball went passed him and into the net. Rebecca Greenslade was introduced to try and help tighten things up at the back, but just when we though we might be getting a firm grip on the game, a looping effort from a Lakenheath player drifted into the far corner for 2-2 at half time. The 2nd half continued with Town dominating but unable to score passed the super visiting keeper. Sonny Clarke on more than one occasion, Jacob Bush, Henry,Luke & Curtis all tried their hardest, but everything was saved, hit the woodwork or just went passed the post. Jamie Blanchflower was introduced to try and help match up to Lakenheath's physical efforts, and then from nowhere came a break away goal, and the team were now behind, and although they went in search of the elusive equaliser, today was not going to be their day, and with almost everyone pressing for the goal, Lakenheath broke and scored again. final Score 2-4. Wymondham MOM - Luke Hunt Opposition MOM - Henry Metcalf
