MULBARTON WANDERERS 2 WYMONDHAM TOWN UTD 2 20/05/2010
Town visited Mulbarton on Thursday night to enable us to complete this outstanding fixture! On a rock hard, bobbly surface it was always going to be difficult to play free flowing football, and it was a battle, and Town looked as though they were already on their much deserved summer holidays. Wymondham were dominating though and made the breakthrough when the outstanding Sonny Clarke, won a tackle in midfield and drove forward and crashed a shot passed the keeper from just outside the box. This would surely settle Town down against a team whom in previous encounters this season we had scored 17 & 14. Henry Metcalf was working hard up front with Jacob Bush and the defence of Jamie Blanchflower and Charlie Gavin were not troubled leaving keeper Lewis Thurston having a quite night although Mulbarton did break through on one occasion only for Lewis to save comfortably. HT 1-0. In the 2nd half Curtis Bell was introduced, and the side reshuffled but this seemed to effect Town and we conceded, soon after the break and then unbelievably from nowhere Mulbarton scored again to go 2-1 ahead. From this point on Wymondham pushed hard for the equaliser, and eventually got it from the right foot of Henry after he drove a great strike from the corner of the penalty box into the far corner, 2-2. Try as they might we could not add to the score and although the performance was far from the normal standard set by the team, it was enough to ensure 4th place in the league.
