BRANDON 3 WYMONDHAM TOWN UTD 2        22/05/2010

What a great game to be involved in to finish the season. We travelled to Brandon on the day when the hosts had to beat us to win the league, and anything other than a win for them would mean runners up spot. On a blistering hot day and a hard and uneven surface, Town set about the home side with a determination to be the only side this season to do the double on Brandon. After an early scare Town broke the deadlock, when from a Sonny Clarke corner Henry Metcalf arrived in front of his marker to blast Town into the lead. Soon after this a long clearance from Charlie Gavin slipped through the Brandon keepers hands and we were 2-0 up and you could sense Brandon were losing their grip on the title. Jacob Bush was battling away superbly for Wymondham and soon after this found Henry with a great cross field pass and as Henry took aim and drove his shot from the edge of the area it cannoned back off the bar. Jamie Blanchflower was winning everything at the back & Town were looking comfortable. Just before half time Brandon pulled one back when their very impressive defender went on a run and hit a shot that Lewis was unfortunate with as it squirmed into the net. This revitalised the hosts and within the same minute they broke again and their striker stroked a shot into the bottom corner for 2-2 at half time. Rebecca Greenslade was introduced for the 2nd half and delivered her best performance of the season, making numerous blocks, and getting hurt in the process, but she showed great determination by staying on and battling through. Curtis Bell & Josh Bush were also brought on but then Brandon struck again with a peach of a shot from distance that left Lewis with no chance, and as it transpired was the goal to win them the title. Town can take a lot of pride again from this performance, pushing the champions all the way. FT 3-2.
After the match Town were presented with their award of being voted the most sporting team in the league this season, so added to the 4th place finish & runners up in the cup a successful season has now been completed
